Gathered here are the Oppositelock posts that people have put a good deal of effort into writing from the last 24 hours. Today it includes Carol 'Bunny' Burkett, another car that time forgot, a V8 Mercedes 250c and more.

Carol "Bunny" Burkett is one of the pioneering figures and most successful drivers in the history of drag racing. When Bunny ran her first race—in 1964, at Old Dominion Dragstrip, in Manassas, Virginia—women drag racers were few and far between.

I’ve yet to have any luck picking a girl up in my lowly 2000 Mercedes C Class, but I attribute that more to faults with myself than the car, but, could a much newer and nicer car help? Let’s ponder this question further.

I decided to go in a slightly different route this time as the car in question today is neither a 1-year only special edition nor is it a limited production unicorn. In fact, the Geo Storm can be found relatively easy by CTTF standards. The GSi is by no means common, but with production numbers in the thousands it is not impossible to find one somewhere that the owner is willing to part with.

Race on Sunday sell on Monday, these words use to mean something to both the manufacturers, dealers but also the consumer. When it came to proving who made the fastest, toughest and most over all bad ass product there was but one place to go. The Race track! during it's hay day NASCAR and to a less extent but just as notable CAN-AM racing back in the late 60's and through the 70's car where put to the test every sunday on race tracks across the country. Chevy, Ford, Plymouth, Dodge, Pontiac and even Buick at times would show up ready to race in their newest high performance Vehicle, though modified for racing they still had ties to the car you could go and buy. Now though that has as you're probably well aware is not the case. Hasn't been for over 20 years. It's sad really.

It may have had some relativity issues when the speedometer went past 88 mph but the DeLorean seemed to capture our heats with its un-supercar-like performance, body work molded from your mother's refrigerator, and inefficient-in-real-life-scenarios gull wing doors.

The 2013 Hyundai Azera is in its second year after a 2012 redesign, and the car remains virtually unchanged. The redo has seen the car morph from a bland, unremarkable sedan into an eye-catching contemporary design with modern design elements.

The W114 Mercedes chassis was marketed as the "New Generation" when released in 1968, but became known colloquially for its model year as the Strich Acht for /8 or stroke eight. The W114 chassis was only available with 6 cylinder engines, but to live up to its nickname, this one has been given a proper V8 transplant.

My 2012 Maxima came with some real p.o.s. Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. Even when they were brand new, they provided this curious blend of oversteer and understeer under hard driving that just felt dangerous. Tires are literally where the rubber meets the road, and I could never understand why they'd put such bad tires on a $40,000 "four-door sports car" (ha!).

Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer, and you decide one single vehicle that they make or made (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.

Correction:
"Monovich parked his e30 M3 next to an E92 335is." Not an M3. Just thought I'd point that out.

It would. Looks like I missed it. One sec, I'll add it in.

Cool thanks!
It was after 5 yesterday, so I didn't pester you with it until today. In the future should I tag it as car spotting and then potato?
![]() 09/04/2013 at 22:36 |

Nah, I don't really pay attention to tags, I scroll through all of Oppo for the required time period so when I miss something it's just a lapse on my part.

I was wondering why so many people had read my post about picking up girls, but then when I saw this I realized with this new layout on Jalopnik, the posts that get featured near the top of Best Of get read way more than the guys down the list.
As always though, thanks DasWauto.

Hey on an unrelated note, I stumbled onto your merchandise on society6. Can you give me some background on the stuff you sell, also if you can do custom shirts and/or posters? Even if you can't, it looks like you've got some stuff I need to get.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 08:51 |

Yeah, I've been meaning to replace that. I will at some point.

It started on Oppositelock actually about a year and a half ago. I saw a picture online that was similar in style to what I do but not of a car I wanted so I made my own (the e9) and posted it here. People asked me to do more of them and then asked if I could sell them as t-shirts and prints. After some looking around I chose Society6 and that's how that all came about.
I do custom stuff/requests on occasion, if I feel like it (I'm not going to work on something that I'm not really interested in) so feel free to ask.

Alright I'll check out your stuff some of your stuff today, I only browsed quickly last night, but it looked pretty sweet.
On promoting posts, I think I remember you saying in the past the order goes from when it was posted, or do you go more by popularity? And in terms of what section it goes in, I'm assuming the top section is for things like my Tales of an Enthusiast and something like my article last night would be in the discussion section? Just trying out how to game the system to get near the top lol.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 15:56 |

It's generally in order of posting but I've recently started putting some of my favourite posts nearer to the top. Posts that people have put serious effort into writing are considered for the top section, occasionally that includes posts that start a really good discussion. I just have to use my discretion there.
No need to try to game my system, I too have noticed that Kinja is putting the top 2 posts from the 'best of' on the main page of Jalopnik so I'm going to start choosing those a bit more carefully.
As for your post from yesterday, to be honest, I still haven't read it. From the quick glance I gave it, it looks like you were simply taking issue with some of the comments on your other post. Based purely on that it may not be included but I'll be sure to read it later when I'm working on today's 'best of Oppo'.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 16:14 |

Yeah I do think the top two spots should reserved for the best (either writing or effort). People seem to gravitate more towards those two based purely on the fact that my short post about picking up girls with cars got several thousand views, while my previous pieces featured farther down only get an extra few hundred.
As for my post last night, I don't think it deserves to be at the top, I'm not that self centered. While that post did focus on some criticism from my second Tale, it was more about my thoughts on the differences between Jalopnik and Oppo, and how I enjoy Oppo more because of the civility. But then I fell into my old and bad habit of defending parts of a previous post.

Would you be willing to a t-shirt or poster, or throw pillow similar to your Miata Generations pillow where instead of Miatas it would be a MkII, MkIV, and MkVI Golf GTI? I'd also like something the Boss 302 design but instead of that a W202 C Class with "W202" in place of "Boss 302."
Thanks!
![]() 09/05/2013 at 20:50 |
|
To be honest, I'm not too interested in the W202, no offence. For what it's worth, I do have a [w201] 190e Evo that's been in progress for way too long [probably approaching a year now, derp].
I would consider doing the GTI generations though. That'll be quite a bit of work but I've always loved the GTI and there are tons of others who do as well.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 21:38 |
|
Would you ever consider doing the W202 if I paid you enough for it lol.
The GTI one is my second choice, and I would get a shirt, a pillow, and a big poster if you decided to do it. What do you think of my idea of just doing the MkII, IV, and VI though? I picked those three cause I think they represent the largest change (even thought the MkV was the actual change, not the MkVI, but I have a VI and like it more.)
![]() 09/05/2013 at 21:42 |
|
Hahah ... maybe but I really wouldn't enjoy doing the work no matter how much I got paid.
As for the GTIs, I'd prefer to do all of them. I couldn't skip Mk I; it's the father of all hot hatchbacks, no ignoring that.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 22:43 |
|
Do you think it would still look good with all seven put onto one shirt/poster?
![]() 09/05/2013 at 22:49 |
|
Yes, though I'd consider leaving off the VII as it's not out in North America just yet.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 23:27 |
|
And it looks really similar to VI, that why I just suggested 2 4 and 6,since they look different.
And was the GTI introduced in the first generation, or the second?
![]() 09/05/2013 at 23:30 |
|
The GTI was introduced on the Mk I, in 1975.
![]() 09/05/2013 at 23:48 |
|
Oh ok. I asked since the design you had on your website was a MkII, so I figured that's when they introduced it.

Just wondering how do Iget my post on oppoat all? I wrote something and it just went to this private blog hell purgatory thing?

The Mk II was a request that I took was too long to fulfill. Also, I had a MK II VW a few years ago and I still love them.

By asking, like you just did. I've made you an author and you should be able to post directly to Oppo now. Let me know if you need any help.
